GREYHOUND OF THE MONTH – MAY

It was a “2 dog race” for the Greyhound of the Month Award in May, with Ten Tornados and Jumbo Forrest both vying for the award according to the judges. In the end it was Ten Tornados that received the most first preferences and taking the prize. He received five first preferences, while Jumbo Forrest gained two.

The success gives trainer Troy Murray his fourth monthly title this year, having won the first three with Miss Spicy.

Ten Tornados came to SA from Queensland with a handy record, having won three races from a handful of starts. He only began racing here at the start of the month with a solid win at Gawler. That was the followed by a clean sweep of the Gawler Produce Stake. He won his heat in 31.03, the semi-final in 31.09 and then the final in 31.22. He came from well back in the Final to win narrowly from kennelmate Quinyana after a scrimmage on the home turn. Since those runs, Ten Tornados has subsequently gone on to victory at Angle Park .

Ten Tornados is by Go Wild Teddy out of Lucky Penna, making him a relation to both Saxonator and Estella, which have both been Greyhound of the Year Finalists in the last couple of years. A January 2004 whelping, Ten Tornados is owned by Sarah Pringle and continues the strong run she and Troy ’s combination have been having.
