STRONG FIELD FOR THE ADVERTISER INTERSTATE CHALLENGE TOMORROW NIGHT

The Advertiser Interstate Challenge, through its short history has produced some of the highlights of the Summer Chasing Carnival. Last year it was won by Miss Spicy and she of course went on to win the Sky Channel Adelaide Cup a fortnight later. And who will forget the year of Brett Lee; his 29.04 win in the Challenge, which was the precursor to his wonderful track record in the Cup. They are the only greyhounds that have gone on to take out the double from the eight run to date.

This year the field looks another strong one. Betty’s Angel heads the cast, following her Melbourne Cup victory two starts back. She is already the third fastest greyhound around Angle Park , with her 29.17 run in the Coffex Coffee Oaks Heat. Since then she only seems to have improved; her time in the Melbourne Cup was 29.51, only .13 outside Bond’s record at Sandown. Big Time Max has recorded 29.37 around Angle Park and won the Coca Cola Derby here in October. He is coming back from an injury in November, but won his heat and semi-final of the Silver Chief, before an unlucky fourth in last Saturday’s Final.

Dyna Redbull has been racing in great style of late, including running down Betty’s Angel’s sister, Leprechaun Pace, at Sandown four starts back. He won his Cranbourne Cup heat, defeating Big Time Max and then ran second in the Final to Vapour Whirl. While Train A Journey’s recent form has all been in Group races. He was most unlucky to run into Jaimandy Coops in his heat of the Cranbourne Cup and then won the Consolation there on Monday night. He had a trial here last Saturday morning and went around the circuit in around 29.50.

Rellim Thomas heads up the local list following his win in last week’s New Year Sprint, gaining automatic entry into this race. Interesting to note that he ran third at Sandown behind Silver Chief winner, Meticulous, four starts back. Kennelmate Nifty Blitz also ran in that race at Sandown but finished well back after having won the heat. He has since won defeating Rellim Thomas at headquarters and has a best time of 29.55.

Satanic Miss will run in her second The Advertiser Interstate Challenge. She has won 19 races at Angle Park and nearly $50,000 in total. Her main strength is her early speed and she is capable of giving them something to chase. Permability is the other local contender and he has always been a very competitive greyhound, his best win in recent times was the Doug Payne Memorial in November, which followed a great placing in the Gawler Cup.

Cash Up (Vic) and Outfoxed (SA) are the reserves for the race. Should an interstate greyhound be scratched, then it will be replaced by Cash Up and if a local greyhound comes out, then Outfoxed will go in. Of course should there be two scratchings, then both reserves will gain a start. Outfoxed will also running a time trial during the evening, if it doesn’t gain a start.
