GAWLER PRODUCE HEATS – THIS TUESDAY

Greyhound Racing SA and the Gawler Greyhound Racing Club will conduct the 2007 Gawler Produce Stake from next Tuesday afternoon (8th May). At close of nominations, 30 greyhounds remained from those that had made the required payments. There will therefore be 4 heats of the event run next week and 2 semi-finals the following Tuesday.

The Final will be run on Monday night 21st May, which hopefully should allow more people to attend the rich event. The normal Angle Park Monday meeting for that week will be run on the Tuesday afternoon (22nd May).

The 2007 Gawler Produce Stake is a series for greyhounds whelped in 2005 and is a “Futurity” event requiring payments which began in October last year.

With the final numbers now known, the prize money breakdown for the series will be as follows:

Tuesday     8th May     4 heats @ $1,000

Tuesday   15th May    2 Semi-finals @ $2,000

Monday    21st May    Final @ $14,000 (incl.$500 breeders bonus)

                                        Consolation @ $1,300

While numbers are down on last year, the quality of the runners looks very good. Heading up the series are the likes of Scull Murphy, Gemstone Supreme, Emerley Carlos, Lucky Trump, Token Cabernet, Keep Token along with a number of other proven winners.

The Produce Stake has a long history with some top winners over the years. Last year’s winner was Ten Tornados, which went on to represent SA in the National Sprint Championship and was a Finalist for the SA Greyhound of the Year. The 2005 winner, Magic Lee, was the SA Greyhound of the Year for that year.
